The Screaming Cat meme, also known as Yamato Cat, is a reaction image featuring a photoshopped black-and-white cat crying with its mouth open. The image is often paired with the Japanese caption “yamero” (“stop it”) to express panic, distress, or desperate frustration.
The original photo was posted to Tumblr in August 2015 by user busket and featured their black-and-white cat Inkky. Three days later, Tumblr user nicolas-px posted the photoshopped version that became the basis for the Screaming Cat meme.
