About Shrugging Tom
The Shrugging Tom meme features Tom from Tom and Jerry shrugging his shoulders with raised eyebrows. It is commonly used to express ignorance, feigned innocence, or playing dumb to avoid responsibility.
The image comes from the 1943 animated short Sufferin’ Cats!, in which Tom pretends not to know what happened while hiding Jerry from Meathead Cat. The first viral post featuring the reaction image appeared on Reddit on October 18, 2019.
