About Squidward’s Open Eyes
The Squidward’s Open Eyes meme, also known as Sleeping Squidward, is a two-image reaction format showing Squidward opening and closing his eyes. It is commonly used to express shock after remembering an unfinished task or responsibility.
The images come from the SpongeBob SquarePants episode “Home Sweet Pineapple,” in which Squidward wakes up in shock after realizing SpongeBob is sleeping next to him. The format was first posted as a contest thread on the Facepunch forum on July 2, 2010.
